When you have bad knees, that is not an excuse to not exercise. You must still exercise regularly along with having a proper diet. Remember to do a proper warm up before engaging in any exercise as stretching is as important as the workout itself. Also, you must exercise three to four times a week because doing it once or twice a week won't be that beneficial to your health.
It is almost like wasting your time because it will basically not have any effect on you. If you don't exercise, you may get fat and that would make you prone to diseases that may end your life sooner than expected. The only person we can trust to take care of our health is ourselves. Here are a few exercises for you to do if you have bad knees:
It feels great to get out of the house and breathe some fresh air and go walking since it is a low impact cardio exercise. At the same time, you could also bring your pet so that it will be able to exercise too. Our pets need exercise as much as we do. Starting with flat surfaces is okay, but try to work in some inclines via hills or slopes in the road. If there is a park in your city or town, that would be great. If not, then go to the nearest public park.
Don't forget to wear the proper shoes while doing this exercise as it won't be smart to wear slippers. When you get used to the flat surface, it would be time to move to an inclined one. There is no doubt you are going to sweat more when you do that and you won't even need to exert more energy for it to happen.
This is one of those exercises where you can just take your time until you get really tired. It is easy to assume that you won't need to warm up for a workout like this but you still need to do five to ten minutes of stretching before even thinking of walking.
Lunges are always good for your legs and you don't put any pressure on your knees when you do this exercise. You can also do a variation with dumbbells. If you are a beginner, try to get used to it first so that you that you find it easier in the long run. No form of exercise is easy but when you get used to them, they can actually be fun. Lunges are best paired with other forms of exercise. Some people do lunges as a form of a warm up which isn't a bad idea.
Squats are one of the most popular forms of exercise since it works out the entire body. However, accomplishing a full squat could hurt your knees. It would be better to do half squats where you don't go all the way down so that no pressure is put on your knees. It is only down to your waist which is something easy to get used to. One alternative would be carrying a kettleball or something heavy while doing the half squats. Be sure to do at least three sets of 20 reps each as three or four of this exercise won't be that effective.
Low Resistance Circuit Training
The first thing to remember would be to not overdo these exercises. They may be complex and no matter how excited you are, you must be wary of your knees as overdoing the circuit training would put a lot of pressure on your knees. Having a personal trainer to help you do these exercises can make this workout even better. Too much pressure on your knees can cause all sorts of problems, so make sure to do the exercises correctly.
Swimming is an exercise that barely makes use of your knees. You will use your arms and feet in order to move in the water. While in the water, one good exercise to try is jogging in place. The water would put a lot of resistance on your body. In fact, just standing around the pool and playing with your kids is a good exercise itself.
There will be times when you will be tempted to kick the knees in order to jump start the exercise. Remember to avoid doing that as it would put a ton of pressure on your knees. Water aerobics is another workout to do while swimming as it will get you in the mood for bigger and better things that will brighten your day. An hour of doing laps well definitely help your cardio.
It would be better to do all the best cardio for bad knees with a personal trainer. This person would motivate you into doing your best every time you set out to do your workout. As a matter of fact, you should always look forward to the next time you do exercise. Nobody wants a bulge on their tummy!
It would also be better to do cardio two hours after eating a light meal. if you do that, you would have energy to burn calories from your body. You can't blame yourself if you get a bit hungry after the workout. Just remember to not eat too much so that your cardio workout won't get wasted. If you eat more than what you lost then you may end up gaining weight instead of losing it.
